Alphonse de Lamartine was born in Mâcon and grew up in the area. These green hills, where the vineyard produces the best white wines “Crus”, inspired so well the writer that the landscapes seems to be flooded by poetry ! The cliff of Solutré, very famous in the 1980’s overhangs the valley. The guided tour can include a white wine tasting and the visit of castles where Alphonse de Lamartine lived or was for a short time.
