Known for its famous observatory located at the top of the mountain, the Pic du Midi is a beautiful mountain standing at 2 877 metres high. Here are a few things you need to know about this mountain.
1. It is located in the French Pyrenees
The Pic du Midi is a mountain in the French Pyrenees, a chain of mountains that separates France and Spain. Multiple hiking trails and ski resorts can be found scattered around the mountains.
2. It has a famous astronomy observatory
With multiple telescopes and tools to study the solar system, surface and corona, this observatory located at the top of the Pic is a must visit if you are a fan of astronomy. It is sure to leave you wanting to document yourself more!
3. You may spend the night at the top of the Pic du Midi
Have you ever dreamt of a night at the top of a beautiful mountain, stargazing and such? This mountain offers you just that. At your arrival, a welcome cocktail awaits you. 5. You may do mountain biking there
Two cable cars await the bikers, one during the morning, and one in the afternoon. 15 places per cable car are available, making it 30 in total for a day. Protective gear and a perfect mastery of mountain environments are required. Underaged people that are not accompanied by a legal representative aren’t allowed to go down.
The temperature is usually quite cold, usually going in the negatives until April and staying around 10°C during the summer.
The record high was 21°C, during a month of June, and the record low was -26°C in February.
The visit to the peak lasts about 2 hours, so don’t forget to grab your hiking shoes and enjoy the scenery! Prices for the cable car, a visit to the museum, access to a pontoon in the sky as well as a digital tablet start at 45€ for adults and 27€ for children under the age of 12.
